Condensed biography:
After training and examination at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, Joachim has worked with public commissions and collaborated with several architectural offices on design, analysis of areas, and presentation of them. Parallel to his own artistic activity, which includes numerous exhibitions and public works in Sweden and abroad. Joachim has worked on various assignments at Färgfabriken in Stockholm since 2000. Färgfabriken is a foundation and an exhibition space for contemporary art and architecture.
Between 2008 and 2022, Joachim was the creative and artistic director at the foundation of Färgfabriken. Joachim’s responsibilities were to develop projects and act as an artistic/creative engine for the overall operations. This included a large number of international projects in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia, and exhibitions for the UN headquarters in New York. Joachim has developed exhibitions and projects that contain art, architecture, and interaction between different disciplines. Where research, architecture, design, and art were allowed to develop together to examine issues that affect the environment and culture through different expressions.
Joachim gives lectures and works as a consultant in several different contexts, with a focus on urban planning, cultural heritage, environment, and community building. He continuously participates in the development and implementation of projects with a focus on finding synergies and relationships between research and culture. At present, this is with the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.
Joachim has broad experience in leading workshops, and holding lectures in Sweden and internationally. Through his artistic experiences, he is frequently visualizing and developing concepts in text and images. He has broad experience in creating funding opportunities and leading projects with many different actors, including different parts of society such as the public and private sectors.
His work as an artist moves between different expressions such as painting, video, and sound art. Joachim has worked to develop and implement various exhibition projects and for several years he has collaborated with architects focusing on design and content.
Joachim has had solo exhibitions in Sweden and abroad since 1982 as Konstnärshuset, Gallery Flach, Gallery Engström, and Boibrino Gallery in Stockholm, the Dalarna Museum, and in St. Petersburg, Tunis, and Tokyo and has participated in group exhibitions and film and audio projects in Frankfurt, Leningrad, Tokyo, New York, Documenta Kassel. Joachim is represented at the Moderna Museet Stockholm, the National Public Art Council, at several universities and private collections, and by the Swedish Radio. He has received fellowships from organizations such as Helge Ax: son Johnson and The Carl Larsson Foundation the National Public Art Council.
